Take Me By the Hand

Take me by the hand, God,
And lead me on.
Take me to those in need,
And I will learn compassion.
Take me through the darkness
And I will learn to rely on you.
Take my hand as we walk by the shore,
And I will learn of your stillness.
Take me to the sick,
And I will learn of the power of prayer.
Take me by the field of blooming flowers
And I will learn of your beauty.
Take me to the playground
And I will learn to be a child.
Take me through this world, God
And I will learn of your mercy and love.
Take me by the hand God,
And I will learn and fly above.

-A poem I  wrote at age 15. One of my favorite poems.-

Be still

“Be still and know that I am God.”-Psalm 46:10

My gaze fell on the setting sun
     Which like a golden ball
Softly set behind the bare trees.
A gentle, cold breeze blew
But my eyes continued to search
Through the pale-yellow horizon,
Looking for the golden light.
However it was gone;
It had sunk into the earth,
Welcoming the night.
The sun had gone to bed.
The night rolled in with care,
And in the quiet, winter air
I wondered what I should do next.
Should I pray or sing?
Should I applaud?
The light breeze brought my answer near
And gently whispered in my ear
“Be still and know that I am God.”
